Casa della Fontana is mainly constructed of stone under a Piedmontese tiled roof, and consists of the main house on 2 floors, a long cantina (traditionally the wine making area) and a stable at ground level. On the first floor a very large hayloft. There is also a large brick barn for storing agricultural equipment.
The photograph shows the southern end of the cascina, before refurbishment. You can also see the roofs of the covered portico (which has an adjacent barbecue) and of the traditional pizza oven (with its small chimney). Ideal for outside living. Along the long front lawned terrace, mature trees offer welcome shade in the heat of the day, whilst in the evening the sun sets rosy-pink behind the hills on the other side of the valley. |
