Casa della Fontana is in the Communita Montana, a tranquil rural district of 16 hill village communities and a land of medieval castles, defensive towers and fine churches, reflecting a more turbulent past. Here is a small selection of photographs from the Communita, including our own village of Cassinasco.

Bubbio

The medieval castle, reconstructed in the 19th century, is today a hotel and restaurant.

Caffi

The sanctuary church was built in 1902 on the site where a young shepherd girl had a vision of the Virgin Mary.

Cassinasco

A general view of the village, gateway to the Communita Montana.

Cassinasco

From the baroque parish church and 10th century tower there are panoramic views over the Belbo valley, Canelli and the hills beyond.

Denice

The compact village of Denice comes into view on the descent from Roccovanero towards the Bormida valley

Denice

The tower and belvedere in the centre of the village glow warmly in the winter sunshine

Bormida Valley

Vineyards dominate this view of the descent to the valley from Loazzolo

Roccovanero

The parish church of SS Maria Annunziata dates from 1509. Here it is viewed from the castle walls. There is a pleasant cafe in the small piazza below.

Monastero Bormida

The village was named after a Benedictine monastery. This view shows the ancient bridge, and the castle built on the monastery site.

Monastero Bormida

Another view of the bridge and castle. The bridge is of Roman origin, but was rebuilt in 1994 after serious floods damaged the structure.

San Giorgio Scarampi

The beautiful valley drive to the small hilltop village leads through walnut woods

San Giorgio Scarampi

After the walnut woods the country road climbs onwards towards the small village which is just coming into view on the horizon.
