There are
excellent golf courses in Monferrato
and Langhe.
The nearest facility to
Casa della Fontana is 'Le Colline' at nearby Acqui
Terme. The course is a nine hole, 1,830 metre par 30; there is also plenty
of opportunity to perfezionarsi (perfect yourself) on the driving
range, the illuminated putting green, pitching green and practice bunker, as
well as a swimming pool, and a bar and restaurant in the clubhouse. Le
Colline is closed on Wednesdays. More information (in Italian), but with
some photographs, at
www.acquiterme.it/lecolline/.
This link gives more information about the
town of Acqui Terme.
The newest facility is probably the 'Feudo' based at
our provincial town of Asti. This is an 18 hole course, the first nine holes
opened in October 2005, and the back nine in March 2006. Website at
www.astigolf.it.
There are three leading 18 hole courses, each just over an hour away from
Casa della Fontana. To get to all of them, you will drive
through beautiful countryside. Keen golfers will wish to check out the
websites for these courses for themselves. They are all in Italian, but the
extent and quality of the facilities is fairly clear and there are
hole-by-hole course diagrams to study. The short 11th at Cherasco looks an
interesting challenge (to a non-golfer like me, anyway).
For more details of specific facilities, check
the websites:-
And finally, if you fancy a quick 18 hole,
6,218 metre par 72 round en route, Golf Club Roveri
at Fiano is on land formerly used by the Savoy dynasty for hunting, and very
close to Turin airport.
