Don't go to Canelli during the second weekend in November, unless you want to go to the Fair; it takes over the town! (But then why would you want to go anywhere else?) For the young and the young-at-heart there is a funfair in the piazza, with rides, dodgems and roundabouts. In the adjacent streets,  the stalls at the ancient fair of St Martin sell all kinds of clothing, shoes, jewellery, leather goods....the list is endless.

Drummers and flag wavers in traditional costume march through the streets, and you can ride through the town on a liveried horse and carriage.

The 'wine cathedrals' are open to the public, and on Saturday evening, as darkness falls, the town's Christmas tree (a gift from the Region of Trentino) will be illuminated.

Lovers of good food and wine should head south of the river to Corsa Liberta, the street leading up to the railway station, for here you will find the Regional Truffle Fair, a feast of Piedmontese cuisine, fabulous food and wine on display to taste and purchase.

The Truffle Fair itself takes place in the cantine of the Gancia wine buildings, whilst the restaurants in Canelli and in many of the surrounding villages offer special pre-published set menus for the day with a truffle theme. Prior booking for these is essential.
