From 10 April to 23 May 2010 the actual Shroud will be on view in Turin. This is the first viewing since 2002 when the work of restoration and conservation was carried out, to remove the fragment burned in the fire in Chambery in 1532 and the patches sewn on by the Poor Clares, and then to remount the shroud on a new support after removing the Dutch cloth that had lined it since 1534. The introductory itinerary for viewing the shroud will be more detailed thanks to unpublished high-resolution photographic documentation.

The booking system to visit the Shroud will be accessible from 1 December through www.sindone.org or alternatively through a telephone call centre. For the whole period of the viewing there will also be a fast-track booking service for same-day visits set up in a reception point in piazza Castello, near the Cathedral. The greatest care will be reserved for the sick, the weak, the devout and to diocesan pilgrimages.

During the revealing Pope Benedict XVI will visit Turin and celebrate Mass on the steps of the cathedral.
