Turin and Genoa each host a complete and varied opera season. Details of the first and last published performance dates are given below. Performances are not daily and if you intend to visit the opera, please confirm details directly on the weblinks provided.

Fondazione Teatro Regio di Torino (Turin)

The 'New Royal Theatre' was opened on 1740, suffered a long and chequered history, particularly under Napoleon, and was ultimately destroyed by fire in 1936. The rebuilt theatre, designed by Mollino, opened in 1973 behind the original facade, and seats 1,750 people.

Teatro Carlo Fenice (Genoa)

The original Opera House was opened in 1828 but destroyed by incendiary bombs in 1942. The new theatre, designed by Rossi, opened on the same site in 1991. A little of the original facade remains. The theatre website puts the rebuilding cost at 120 billion lire !  The main hall seats 2,000 people.
